To develop collaboration and encourage teaching, research and academic exchange between New Zealand and German Tertiary Education Institutions.
WELLINGTON, 13 February 2014 − Ostbayerische Technische Hochschule Regensburg (“OTH Regensburg”) and the Wellington Institute of Technology (WelTec), announce their collaboration for teaching, research and academic exchange. The deal, the first of its kind for OTH Regensburg in New Zealand, represents a significant commitment by this leading German university which specialises in applied sciences and engineering programmes to a New Zealand tertiary education institution, WelTec.
This collaboration, spanning five years, will see academic and research staff and students from OTH Regensburg and WelTec teaching and learning in each other’s institutions. Students will be able to enter the programmes offered by OTH Regensburg or WelTec. Engineering, IT and specialist lecturers from OTH Regensburg and WelTec will have the opportunity to teach in both institutions with numerous benefits will arise from sharing teaching expertise and curriculum.
“The Wellington Institute of Technology is our first Partner University in New Zealand for exchange. We are proud of this promising cooperation. There are many fields in which we complement one another excellently, especially in the fields of engineering, science and IT. I’m sure this is the first step of a new successful international partnership. Both the students and our academic staff are sure to benefit from this remarkable connection”, says Prof. Dr. Wolfgang Baier, President at OTH Regensburg.
“Currently OTH Regensburg does not have any formalised agreements with NZ institutions. Signing of the Memorandum will open the way for closer cooperation in the areas which have been discussed between our international offices,” says Dr Linda Sissons WelTec’s Chief Executive.
“Our engineering technologists graduate at degree level so there are many synergies with OTH Regensburg which our students are set to benefit from via the signing of this agreement. We are very excited by these new opportunities. Both OTH Regensburg and WelTec have a strong alignment between what is taught in the areas of engineering, science and IT and meeting industry requirements. With our similar degree offerings and focus on applied research our academic staff and students will be provided with an added international dimension to their educational experience. I look forward to working with our new international partner and seeing our joint aspirations of advancing knowledge and applying this in real-life settings achieved.”
