Research and Development Services
WelTec has a programme of both academic and applied research which is undertaken by teaching and research staff and final year degree students.
Product Development is a special area of applied research for WelTec, which has been further strengthened by the establishment of the Bachelor of Engineering Technology and Bachelor of Applied Management programmes.
Since its launch in 2006, WelTec’s Centre for Smart Product has been the portal through which both individual product developers and companies involved in product development can access WelTec’s expertise in this field and the specialised resources to build prototypes and one-off working samples of specialised product.
With today’s products consisting of one or more of the following components
the Centre provides students, wherever possible, with the opportunity to work on "Projects with Industry" in collaborative cross disciplinary teams, under the supervision of their academic tutors and with mentoring and support from the Centre’s professional staff.
In addition to WelTec students, the Centre also hosts international students from predominately Europe and the USA who undertake internships or work placements ranging from ten weeks to five months.
While at the Centre the international students also work on "Projects with Industry", bringing with them valuable skills and a fresh prospective which can be extremely useful when developing products intended for export or sale overseas.
“WelTec undertook the conversion of the concept very efficiently, producing a design and drawings the met the required performance specifications and which were able to be used for manufacture.
They were also able to manufacture the first prototypes in their workshops and test them.”
