Introducing Chalinor Baliuag, IT tutor at WelTec. Chalinor teaches courses in the Bachelor of IT and Graduate Diploma in IT, focusing on Software Development, Programming, Developing and Testing Software.
Vastly experienced, Chalinor has taught IT at tertiary level for 17 years across three different countries. She spent six years teaching Digital Design and Software Engineering in the Philippines, five years teaching Software Engineering and Mathematics in Saudi Arabia, and has spent the last six years teaching IT Programming in New Zealand (she’s been a tutor at WelTec for the past three years).
“I am passionate about teaching because it enables me to influence my students to achieve their dreams and change their lives.”
Chalinor is a big advocate for WelTec’s applied learning approach, and enjoys teaching practical programming. “I love teaching students new skills and technologies that they can apply in the workforce.”
Also passionate about the opportunities for young people thinking about pursuing ICT as a career, Chalinor often addresses secondary school students on the benefits of training and the job opportunities in the technology sector.
Chalinor has a Bachelor of Science in Computer Engineering, and a Masters in Engineering – specialising in Computer Engineering. Her thesis topic was the design of a device that can measure the electromagnetic radiation emitted by computer monitors.
Currently, Chalinor is working with the School of Engineering to research technology solutions for designing timber-framed buildings. Once complete, this research will be invaluable for WelTec’s Architectural Technology tutors and students.
