Mary Proctor has been appointed to lead WelTec and Whitireia IT delivery.
“With almost twenty years’ experience in the tertiary education sector, most recently as Head of Department of Arts, Media and Digital Technology at NMIT, Mary Proctor has an excellent track record for leading and promoting Information Technology.
“More than 1180 (817 EFTS) students studied IT with Whitireia and WelTec in 2017. The School of IT comprises a large area of our delivery and is very significant in terms of its contribution to the Wellington and New Zealand economy producing highly skilled IT graduates.”
Chris Gosling says the appointment of Mary Proctor will see the institutions’ IT programmes and relationships with industry advance to the next level.
“Mary has very strong industry relationships and is passionate about promoting the role of vocational education to business. She is the ideal leader to work with the thriving Wellington IT sector ensuring our students and graduates have the skills and attributes required to be today’s and tomorrow’s IT professionals,” says Chris Gosling.
Mary Proctor is the current Chair of Computing and Information Technology Research and Education New Zealand (CITRENZ), part of IT Professionals New Zealand, and the national representative body for IT delivery by Institutes of Technology and Polytechnics (ITPs).
“I am deeply committed to vocational education and training especially in the field of IT. There is a significant skills shortage in the sector and ITPs are part of the solution producing graduates who are work-ready,” says Mary Proctor.
“I feel incredibly privileged to take on the role of Head of IT at WelTec and Whitireia and I look forward to meeting our staff and students as the 2018 academic year gets underway,” says Mary Proctor.
