WelTec staff were delighted to attend the graduation ceremonies of students at Rimutaka Prison throughout the month of July.
WelTec has been offering programmes in Tiling, Plastering, Painting and Decorating, Carpentry and Plumbing, Gasfitting and Drainlaying at Rinutaka Prison for the last 11 years giving students a route to employment or further study upon their release.
The programmes thought at Rimutaka Prison are the same nationally recognised programmes WelTec offers at their Petone campus. The students at Rimutaka Prison are held to the very same standard which is evident from the work they produce. Nigel Phillipson, WelTec Programme Manager – Construction, commented: “There is some outstanding work and talent from our current students”. You can see the impressive results below.
Reducing re-offending is a top priority of the Department of Corrections. Training and education have been shown to significantly reduce the likelihood of re-offending helping to create safer communities.
