Research Speciality: Hospitality industry security responsibility, hospitality and tourism staff/contractor security vetting, duty of care towards tourists and visitors, creating a security conscious industry, food, sport, maritime and event terrorism.

 

Background:

Cyril Peter is passionate about hospitality and creating nourishing experiences for guests. While this explains his love for preparing and serving his natural Sri Lankan food to others; it also crosses over to the desire to provide security to those in his care. With a history in the hospitality industry (and qualifications to match) it has become an enduring desire to ensure the industry is as prepared as possible in the face of the rising acts of terrorism.

Cyril ‘accidentally’ discovered his research subject, hospitality/tourism related terrorism, while studying for his Masters degree at Auckland University of Technology. This research area and its subsets, have now become his main research focus. The main thrust of his work is to identify gaps in the security blueprint of the industry, and offer possible solutions.

Cyril has successfully completed several research projects and has been presenting his findings at various international conferences since 2013. He has also written and published several journal article. As part of the overall theme (hospitality/tourism related terrorism), Cyril has thus far completed research related to sports events, food and cruise/maritime. He is now planning to work on event security, use of vehicles as weapons and lone wolves and its implications on hospitality and tourism.
